WE MUST BE MARRIED

My husband and I were rushing to get to a meeting at the high school.  I came upstairs to see if he was ready and discovered he was wearing this ...

Which is fine, except that I was wearing this ...

We dressed alike.  Again.  This happens ALL THE TIME.

Usually we just roll our eyes and go with it, but we did not want to look dorky in front of the teacher, or principal, or teens, or anyone else we may encounter at the high school.  At least, more dorky than we usually do.

I asked my husband to change, but he didn't have another shirt ironed and ready.  So I changed to a navy and white striped tee with a nautical edge.   It looked spiffy.

My parents dressed alike all the time, and they were married 59 1/2 years.  So maybe we're on to a good thing.

CLEANING FOR MOM

My mom is coming to visit for a few days.  I'm so excited!  And I really need to clean.

And I really need to wear my glasses when I do so, because I just realized that my bathroom blinds look like this.

The left side is the side I cleaned today, the right side is how they have looked for Lord knows how long.   I think I should get contacs.

We also have been making some home improvements ... like we finally put up a banister to the basement.

My husband designed that himself, so that Baxter can still sit on the stairs and look out the window!

He will be so grateful.  And we put up shades in my son's room ...

To go with the lovely re-purposed chest of drawers dresser I featured in a previous post.

Have I mentioned how much I love my Swiffer?

Do they give Nobel prizes for cleaning products?

Mom will be so happy she doesn't have to look at this ...
That's the Swiffer loaded with cobwebs and dust that I had been peacefully coexisting with for many weeks.  Let's forget all that now, and say ...

Welcome, Mom!

GOING BANANAS

I buy a lot of bananas.  We all love them, but we each love them in our own way.

As you can see, I keep bananas at all different stages of ripeness on hand.  My older son likes them slightly green, my younger son likes them with just a few brown spots.  I will eat them anyway at all.

The only thing I don't like ...

is when there are no bananas.  At least it gives me a chance to wash out the ceramic pasta bowl that my mother-in-law made years ago.  We eat more bananas than pasta in this house, so that's why I "re-purposed" the dish.

When the bananas get too brown,

I make muffins.  We eat a lot of banana muffins.  Then there was the time our dog Baxter got into the muffins, ate a few, and hid a few around the house.

Including one on my pillow.  What a good doggy!!

After we eat the bananas, we like to leave them all over the house, or sometimes we throw them in the trash in the laundry room.

Growing up, we ate bananas with mayonnaise on them.

Is that a mid-western thing?  A Swedish thing?  My grandmother used to do that.  It's delicious.  She put mayonnaise on pears, too.  And biscuits, as I recall.   I still do eat bananas with mayonnaise sometimes, but not in front of my husband, because he freaks out.  My sister eats bananas with mayonnaise, too.  We're Swedish that way.

What do you put on your bananas?
